Auto-acquire antenna has potential to revolutionize communications for the oil and gas exploration market

BURLINGTON, Iowa (Oct. 30, 2014) — Winegard, a pioneer in antenna design and development, announced today that its WV750A 75 cm low profile drive-away auto-acquire satellite antenna has been authorized for use on ViaSat Exede® Enterprise service. Winegard can now provide the oil and gas industry with a satellite terminal certified to work on the ViaSat Exede Enterprise network. The Ka-band service provides vastly improved Internet access for exploration, drilling and production on remote sites and offshore drilling platforms.

Winegard’s antenna, when used with ViaSat Exede Enterprise service, will enable secure, real-time Internet communications between remote and main-office locations, improving decision-making and productivity for the oil and gas industry. The service, which can be quickly configured and deployed, is also ideal for high-speed Internet at “man camps” in remote locations. With download speeds up to 18Mbps, Exede Enterprise service will be a substantial improvement in the speeds available compared to current oil and gas remote Internet services.

Winegard will showcase its WV750A 75 cm Ka auto-deploy satellite system at OilComm 2014, held at the George R. Brown Convention Center, November 5-7 in Houston, Texas., booth #201.

“The WV750A provides a great fly-away antenna to bring our fast Internet experience to remote locations for the oil and gas market,” said Kristin Scheib, ViaSat product manager. “This new product adds to the many enterprise applications that our Exede Enterprise service enables.”

“We are excited that ViaSat has certified our Ka-band auto-acquire antenna solution,” said Winegard President Jon Manley. “This satellite system features robust mechanics and electronics for fast satellite acquisitions and reliable operations in even the harshest environments. The WV750A has the potential to revolutionize the energy market, with one button operation that acquires Ka-band satellite connectivity within minutes.”

This 75 cm vehicular roof mount antenna system is designed and built to exceed Mil-spec standards for enterprise energy markets. Its rugged design and ultra-low backlash gear train ensures a reliable and superior performing system. The integrated GPS compass replaces a traditional magnetic compass which maximizes the accuracy and speed of satellite acquisition. Winegard’s WV750A low stow height and small footprint allows it to be mounted on a vehicle or trailer where space is limited.
