AP-8700 - w/ 300Ohm flat wire
Date Modified: 04.16.09

Question:
I would like to use a Winegard AP-8700 preamp with my existing 300 ohm flat wire. Can the preamp still be used with a couple of cable to twin lead transfomers at each end of the twin lead wire? I realize there will be some signal loss this way, but would the preamp still work?

Tech Tip:

Yes, you can use a couple of 75/300 ohm matching transformers to convert from coax cable to 300 ohm flat wire. The important thing is that the transformers are AC/DC power passive or the +15VDC voltage from the power supply will not reach the preamplifier. Winegard’s model number of the matching transformer is a TV-2900.
